Day 38: Authentic Community
Wednesday
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For through him we both – Jews and Gentiles – have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
~Ephesians 2:13, 18-19
There are numerous rights, freedoms, and privileges that we enjoy simply because we’re American citizens; but there are many responsibilities of citizenship as well. In the same way, we share both privileges and responsibilities in common with all who belong to God’s eternal kingdom. And we live out our highest allegiance to King Jesus by loving and gladly sacrificing for the good of His people, our fellow citizens.
- How did you get citizenship in God’s kingdom?
- What are some rights, privileges, and freedoms you’ve received as a citizen of God’s kingdom?
- What could you do today to embody the reality that you share your citizenship with the Christians around you?
Lord Jesus, thank you for bringing us under the protection and blessing of your reign. Help us to remember that our real citizenship is in heaven and is not wrapped up in the things of this world. Cause us to express our loyalty and gratitude to you by seeking only good for your people, our fellow citizens. For Christ’s sake, Amen.
