Day 12: Engagement
Friday
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
~Romans 13:8, 10
If your neighbors were asked to describe you, what do you think they’d say? Would they say you’re friendly and helpful? Or would they say you’re introverted and they hardly even know you? Here’s the real question: how many of your neighbors would say that you clearly love them? Jesus says this – love for your neighbor – is the real test of your love for God and His law.
- Read the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37. What are some practical ways the Samaritan demonstrated love?
- What are some things that must happen between you and your neighbors in order for you to love them well?
- How will you actively love a neighbor this week?
Lord Jesus, you demonstrated extravagant love for me by taking my sin upon yourself and going to a cross and laying down your life. I want to be like you in how I love my neighbors, but so often I’m not. Sometimes it’s just easier for me to be selfish or standoffish. Forgive me. Change me. Empower me. Move me toward my neighbors with your proactive, generous spirit, and cause them to experience your love through me today. For Christ’s sake, Amen.
